Located on an open field, the project strategy was to create varied and dynamic rooms internal to the project. The design began with and investigation of Aldof Loos’ concept of the Raum plan but with an expanded palette of possible modes for constructing rooms including heat, shade, seating, protection from wind etc. These strategies synthesized with construction details to accommodate site topography, poor soil conditions, and phenomenal views. Circulating up through the house, each space captures its own view and feel while still connecting and overlapping with the whole. The variety of spaces come together to hold a courtyard which becomes a curated oasis tucked into the flowing hay field.
