The Peaks to Plains trail is an ambitious trail system with the goal of connecting the South Platte Trail in Denver to the headwaters of Clear Creek at Loveland Pass. The site for this facility is located at the gateway of Golden into the Clear Creek Canyon. Situated between visitor parking and access to the stunning canyon trails, the buildings simple form punctuates the dramatic site. Hovering above the stone walls, the roof lifts to bring natural light to the spaces within. The project’s maters were selected to both withstand public use while also providing a relationship with the site. The stone is quarried from the canyon itself and the CorTen steel will weather as the building lives. Who knew a public restroom could be so delightful (and useful!)
