Studiobvio began working with the homeowner on a unique, atypical site in Southwest Denver just after she closed on the property, to explore the feasibility of a detached Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU). The site presented several unique opportunities and challenges. The location of the existing primary home allowed for us to split the lot into two which provided the owner with another potential development opportunity and rapidly developing neighborhood. Given the limited size of the new primary site, the allowable ADU footprint became quite small. Our challenge was to design a roughly 400sf unit that could maintain public space and not feel like a tiny, one room studio apartment.
